Do I Dare Tackle The Dragon?

Spurgeon once said, “What the Arminian wants to do is to arouse man’s activity: what we want to do is to kill it once for all—to show him that he is lost and ruined, and that his activities are not now at all equal to the work of conversion; that he must look upward. They seek to make the man stand up: we seek to bring him down, and make him feel that there he lies in the hand of God, and that his business is to submit himself to God, and cry aloud, ‘Lord, save, or we perish.’ We hold that man is never so near grace as when he begins to feel he can do nothing at all. When he says, ‘I can pray, I can believe, I can do this, and I can do the other,’ marks of self-sufficiency and arrogance are on his brow.”

Unpopular Powerlessness (Are there are no good people left on the planet?)

A tragic and popular misconception exists in our pluralistic minds!

Which is more difficult to understand?

God is fully sovereign (monergism).

or

God shares His sovereignty with man (synergism).

For over a year, I have been wrestling with and considering my role in my life and the lives of those around me: challenging motive, human nature, thinking, and good works. In essence, why am I doing what I am doing? Is it all only for myself?!

I question the existence of altruism. (Albert Camus) Is there any truly selfless act?

I look closely at the fruit of “alien”, imparted righteousness against the black backdrop of self or depravity. (Jonathan Edwards)

What is the role of prayer, evangelism, and social justice if God is fully sovereign? Read the rest of this entry »

Madeline Neumann’s Death–Now the State wants to determine how her parents exercise their faith.

Police are conducting interviews Thursday in an effort to determine whether charges will be filed against a couple who prayed rather than seeking medical help for their 11-year-old daughter, who died Sunday from a treatable diabetic condition.

Leilani Neumann, Madeline’s mother, told the Associated Press that she never expected her daughter to die.”We just noticed a tiredness within the past two weeks,” Neumann said. “And then just the day before and that day [she died], it suddenly just went to a more serious situation. We stayed fast in prayer then. We believed that she would recover. We saw signs that to us, it looked like she was recovering.” (From Fox–Associated Press March 27, 2008).

The social workers showed up and took the other sibs away for examination. It appears that the state feels that they are healthy and it is not necessarily safe to send them back home, but they haven’t created a law to justify keeping them in foster care. Read the rest of this entry »

Wombat Rapes a Drunk. Man Sent To Rehab and Wombat Seeks Counselling

SYDNEY — A New Zealand man has been sentenced to community service after telling police he was raped by a wombat and the experience had made him speak “Australian”.

I’ve been asked before about my position on the consumption of alcohol.  After viewing this article from Australia, my conclusion is this.  Alcohol causes wombat rape.

The orchard worker later called back and said: “Apart from speaking Australian now, I’m pretty all right, you know.”

Can My Shoes Get Into Heaven?

Posted in Philosophy and Theology tagged , , , , , , , , , , , at 11:34 am by breadandsham

(Subtitle: That Is A Very Catholic Way To Think)
I’m thinking about posting these for sale as new on ebay:
What if I put new shoe laces on them?
.
What if I clean their soles real good?
“For by grace you have been saved.” Eph. 2:8-9.
“All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.” Is. 64:6

For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.” Rom. 1:17

But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” Rom. 3:21-24

Certainly people within the body of faith, as well as those who are yet unbelievers, should not imagine that they are good enough to be sold as new on ebay, much less able to earn the reward for perfection.

That reward is earned once and for all.  The pressure is off of you and I.  He shares His reward with all who will enter.  “Come, all ye who are weary and heavy.  I will give you rest unto your souls.” Mt. 11:28.
